Abbey in the Spotlight!

Abbey is our admin extraordinaire. She joined the MC Equestrian team in March 2021. She is warm, bubbly and a highly organised, welcome addition to the MC Equestrian office.

What led you to start your job at MC Equestrian?

I have a background in business admin and was an accountant previously, so when the opportunity arose to combine this experience with my passion for horses it was a dream come true!

Funnily enough, I used to agist my previous lease horse Earl, with Dee and Sarah many years ago and often rode with Sarah as a teenager. I had a break from horses and when I got back into riding again (before I started worked at MCEQ) I had my first lesson back with Sarah. It’s funny how things have turned out for me.

What does a typical day involve for you?

Every day is different! I am typically working in the office, answering phone calls and emails, and helping clients and staff wherever needed. I arrange and assist many of our wonderful suppliers (vets, chiro, physio, saddle fitters etc) who care for our horses and often do various tasks down at the yard. I am also currently completing my coaching qualification.

What do you like best about working at MC Equestrian?

I love being able to combine my skills and passions, as my days often combine office work and tasks around the horses. I’m constantly learning, and I feel really lucky to be around horses every day at work. We have such a great team as well, who are great to work with!

Tell us about your horse?

My horse Ivy is 4 years old and I’ve had her for a year. She’s a solid black Knabstrupper and is incredibly sweet. Ivy LOVES food. She will give anything a try! Her current favourite are bananas- she will eat them skin and all! As Ivy is very young, this year has been about giving her positive, confidence building experiences rather than training very hard. We do lots of groundwork and love trail rides to build her confidence and strength. I’m aiming to teach her to jump as she gets older, she has lots of natural potential and I’m hoping she will enjoy eventing, but I’ll see where her skills take us as she grows.

Tell us about your favourite riding trail?

I love the Sandy Trail (also known as Red Letterbox trail and a few other names!) in Duffy’s Forest- it goes down into the valley and is just stunning! It’s so peaceful for both horse and rider.

What are you most looking forward to when the Covid-19 lockdown finishes?

I’m really looking forward to taking Ivy out to a few competitions with the MC team. It will also be wonderful to welcome back so many of our riders who haven’t been able to ride with us during lockdown, and be able to get back to some normality.
