Douglas’s Journey

Meet Douglas, a stunning 16.2h, chestnut gelding that arrived to the MCEQ stables in early October 2020. A handsome boy with great all-round experience. Not long after his arrival, Douglas needed surgery to remove a growth that had filled one side of his sinus cavity. After his surgery in November 2020, he then developed a post-operative infection and had further surgery in December that same year. In need of a little time to recuperate we sent Douglas off to Emeran Park for postoperative care by their highly skilled, equine medical management team on their 100-acre equine care facility. Shannon and Donna did a fantastic job and he was successfully rehabilitated and eased back into training.

After his somewhat shaky start, the now ‘ruggedly’ handsome Douglas - with a few lumps and bumps on his face from surgery - returned to the MCEQ stables in late March 2021. Winning the award for the most expensive horse that MCEQ has ever had!

Douglas is now fighting fit and reassuming his duties in the riding school and doing a fantastic job with our riders young and old. Douglas is a fun and friendly character and loves a good scratch on his head. We are happy to report he is now doing well and is back in action!

Special thanks also go to Haley and Emily at Randwick Equine who also did an amazing job in restoring Douglas’s health.
